Smartmaster ecosystem October 2025 update

Discover the latest updates across our platforms, bringing new features and improvements that enhance transparency, usability, and compliance.

Quarter-hour dynamic tariff

To remain compliant with the evolving SDAC market rules, dynamic tariffs in both the Home app and the Web Portal have been updated to the new 15-minute granularity, effective from 01/10/2025.

Savings Overview & History

The ‘Cost’ page in the Home app has been upgraded to put your cost optimization front and center. You can now easily see how much you’ve saved on energy costs, thanks to the battery usage, PV self-consumption, and PV curtailment that prevents exporting energy at negative prices.

Alerts in Web Portal

Installers and distributor roles now have a centralized view of all alerts linked to SmartMaster devices directly in the Web Portal dashboard. Alerts can be filtered by time, status, type, or via a custom search. Selecting an alert will redirect you to the associated device, making it faster and easier to take action.

Integrations

We continue to expand our compatibility with a variety of products, including Goodwe, Enovates chargers, Huawei chargers, Sigenergy, Sungrow, AlphaESS, SMA, and more. This update improves integration, giving you greater flexibility.

Environment API

The latest version of our Environment API is now available as a Swagger file. Access it here.

This update continues our commitment to improving usability and control. We hope you enjoy exploring the new features, with more updates on the way.
This release covers Web Portal version 2.14.1-hot8 and Home App version 1.4.0.

This latest patch is a significant step forward, laying the groundwork for upcoming UX/UI enhancements you’ll see reflected in our new topology views and the soon-to-come single line feature.

With this update, we’re bringing you powerful new ways to control your charging, monitor your capacity, and manage your assets — all designed to give you greater insight, flexibility, and ease of use.

Enhanced Services to Optimize Your Energy Use

Capacity Alert
We’ve activated the Injection Limit feature to better steer curtailment when needed using negative quarter-hour kWp values. The system also uses positive quarter-hour kWp limits to maintain safe operating thresholds.

Charger Control: Four New Charging Modes

  • Solar Mode: Charge only with solar panel electricity, maximizing self-consumption and cutting down imported energy and CO2 emissions.

  • Green Mode: The EMS optimizes your charging session’s green energy share, balancing charging speed with environmental impact.

  • Tariff Mode: When electricity tariffs are favorable, this mode increases charging power while staying within your contracted capacity.

  • Full Power Mode: Need to charge quickly? This mode delivers maximum power from your charger instantly.

Installer Commands (Smartmaster Pro only):
New commands allow installers to reboot chargers, refresh status, clear cache, and unlock charging cables remotely.

New Distributor Role and Access

We introduced a dedicated distributor role to provide tailored access to key parts of the platform such as Dashboard, Environment, Smartmaster, Access, Transactions, and Datasource management. Distributors will receive their account details soon.

Topology: The Future of Visual Energy Management

This update introduces exciting new topology features that make managing your energy assets easier and more intuitive: compact and rotated views, zoom and drag navigation, multiple selection, right-click asset management, and the much-anticipated Single Line view. You’ll also notice color-coded indicators and the solar priority feature, aligned with the Solar Mode in asset control.

Improved Settings and Network Visibility

  • A new restart button allows installers and distributors to reboot Smartmaster devices directly from the interface.

  • Modbus port detection now shows if port 502 is open on your network, simplifying troubleshooting.

Environment API: Unlocking New Integration Possibilities

Our newly launched Environment API lets environment owners control devices, manage services, and access historical data programmatically—without using the Nexxtlab app. This opens the door to building your own applications, integrating with flexibility providers, or pulling data for custom analytics.

Unlocking the Power of Nexxtlab Topology: New Visualization and Configuration Tools

Managing your energy assets just got easier. In this article, we’ll explore the latest enhancements to Nexxtlab’s topology tools — from flexible visualization and smooth navigation to powerful new configuration options. Designed to give you greater control and clarity, these updates come with easy-to-follow videos to help you get the most out of your system.

Different visualization options

You can choose to display the topology either vertically or horizontally. You can also switch between expanded and compact views to suit your preference. Additionally, you now have the option to zoom in and out, allowing you to focus on specific details or get a broader overview as needed.

New Zoom and Move Tools

You can now easily zoom in and out of the topology using two fingers on the touchpad, allowing you to focus on specific areas or see the whole picture. Additionally, you can click and drag to move the topology around, making it much easier to explore and navigate.

Add and delete assets in a simpler way

Right-click on any node in the topology to quickly add new elements. Select the type of asset you want to add and specify the quantity—all in a single flow. Once the assets are added to the appropriate level of the topology, you can finalise their configuration using the “Asset configuration” panel.

Copy/paste configuration option

If you want to duplicate asset configurations to save time during installations you can easily copy them with our Copy/Paste feature. Copy/Pasting is only allowed between elements of the same type.

Note that the Name field is not copied, as we recommend individual names per asset.

To use the copy feature simply right-click on an element in the topology, then select one or multiple elements and paste the copied content.

Multi-selection mode

Select multiple assets at once to delete them in bulk or apply a copied configuration to several assets of the same type.

Clear configuration State Indicators

Each asset in the topology has a state based on its configuration:

  • Configured: All mandatory fields are filled, and a communication unit is added (optional). → Fully ready for monitoring and control.
  • Minimal: All mandatory fields are filled, but no communication unit is added. → Valid, but limited in monitoring/control capabilities.
  • Incomplete: One or more mandatory fields are missing. → Must be completed to function properly.

New Single line view

The Single-Line View provides a streamlined, real-time overview of your electrical plan, displaying the system in a simplified, schematic format. This feature highlights the status and power usage of all installed assets enabling instant insights into operational performance.

Smartmaster Pro: Local Controller and Protocol Enhancements

Local Controller Improvements:

  • Enhanced Gateway functionality with minor fixes to increase reliability.
  • Improved automated Boot Notification for streamlined device initialization.
  • Resolved issues with Powerdale MeterValues reading for accurate energy measurement.
  • Enabled AutoConfig on Start for OCPP 1.6j Chargers, simplifying setup processes.
  • Integrated control via the Cogy app for managing Start/Stop sessions (to be available with upcoming app updates).
  • New Features:
    • DC Charging with semi-automated configuration for easier setup.
    • Improved Voltage reading on chargers for more accurate monitoring.
    • P1 port semi-automated detection for Smartmaster Home, enhancing user experience.

New Protocols Supported:

  • Added support for SCHNEIDER_PM710_MODBUS, enhancing device compatibility.
  • Integrated AUNISOL_INVERTER_PV_MODBUS_TCP for optimized inverter management.

Energy Planning:

  • Added Germany (DE) and Luxembourg (LU) as weather forecast sources to support precise forecasting of solar panel production in anticipation of expanding client bases.
  • Offer insights on optimal times for connecting electric vehicles for charging or using appliances based on excess forecasted solar production.

 

Dynamic Tariff Strategy:

  • Expanded dynamic tariff offerings to Germany and Luxembourg, preparing for new market integrations. Note: Implementation in Luxembourg is pending regulatory developments.

 

Electricity Mix Revitalization:

  • Reactivated the Electricity Mix service, now also supporting Smartmaster Home users, enhancing the overall ecosystem experience.

 

Scalability and Robustness Enhancements:

  • Improved scalability and robustness across all services by optimizing database interactions and computation processes. Enhanced logging mechanisms now provide better bug tracking and resolution.

  • Integrated the OCPP1_5_PROXY protocol into communication units, a necessary update for Gateway compatibility.
  • The Proxy now supports multiple server URLs, tailored for use with OCPP Security level 2.
  • Introduced a Standalone Server for OCPP 1.5 as part of the Gateway upgrade.
  • Updated topology verification to support automated migration of legacy devices to the new Proxy system.
  • Improved logging specifically for Proxy operations.

OCPP Gateway and Proxy Support

We’ve enhanced our Smartmaster Pro series with the introduction of the Smartmaster OCPP Gateway, allowing chargers on the older OCPP 1.5 protocol, such as the Powerdale Nexxtender Advance, to seamlessly integrate with the newer OCPP 1.6J standard. This update is crucial for extending the operational life of existing chargers and ensuring their compatibility with modern EV charging networks. 

The OCPP Gateway and Proxy play a vital role in achieving interoperability within EV charging systems, enabling efficient communication and management between charging stations and central systems. Our focus is on improving the reliability and scalability of EV charging infrastructures to meet the evolving demands of the electric vehicle market.

OCPP 1.6j: Enhancements
